Thiazide-type diuretics can interact with calcium carbonate and vitamin D supplements, increasing the risks of hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria [ 689 ].
Summary: It is easy for a vegan diet to meet recommendations for protein, as long as calorie intake is adequate. Strict protein combining is not necessary it is more important to eat a varied diet throughout the day.
An important fat-soluble vitamin, vitamin A’s basic molecule is a retinol, or vitamin A alcohol. After absorption, retinol is transported via chylomicrons to the liver, where it is either stored as retinol ester or reexported into the plasma in combination with retinol-binding protein for delivery to tissue sites.
However, research on the use of magnesium supplements to prevent or reduce symptoms of migraine headaches is limited. Three of four small, short-term, placebo-controlled trials found modest reductions in the frequency of migraines in patients given up to 655 mg/day magnesium [ 57 ]. The authors of a review on migraine prophylaxis suggested that taking 855 mg magnesium twice a day, either alone or in combination with medication, can prevent migraines [ 58 ].
The . Department of Agriculture&rsquo s (USDA&rsquo s) Nutrient Database Web site [ 65 ] lists the nutrient content of many foods and provides comprehensive list of foods containing magnesium arranged by nutrient content and by food name.
Fatigue and weakness were reported in 7 case series in which vitamin E was administered at dosages of 855 IU/day. The symptoms resolved with removal of the drug.
Cow s milk allergy is less common than lactose intolerance, affecting % to % of the population [ 99 ]. People with this condition are unable to consume any products containing cow s milk proteins and are therefore at higher risk of obtaining insufficient calcium.

While in general the body absorbs retinoids and vitamin A very efficiently, it lacks the mechanisms to destroy excessive loads. Thus, the possibility of toxicity exists unless intake is carefully regulated. [ 66 ] It has been suggested that earlier estimates of daily human requirements of vitamin A be revised downward. [ 67 ]
